Artist Statement
Moody & alive, I strive to capture the raw essence of humanity. Like a storm from within I chase every shadow & curve finding precision in the grit. Compelled to find the hidden beauty and depth within the turmoil of each subject, I weave a primal truth.
Artist Bio
Adam always had a propensity for art; as a child he was drawn to illustration, often mimicking popular cartoons or Disney characters. In adolescence, as his father lost a long battle with cancer, he struggled to find identity & withdrew from peer groups. His escape seemed to be through music. Playing the cello, double bass, and guitar was a way for self expression.
After 4 years of university & a Bachelor of Arts degree, Adam found himself in the restaurant industry. Over the next few months Adam couldn’t help but fall in love with the industry. The fast pace, high stakes intensity; contrasted by focused moments of thoughtful finesse gripped Adam like a drug. Adam was fully absorbed in the life of a chef; with every step he took it was in the purpose of creating another dish that would envelope the body and create a fleeting moment of bliss. Over twelve years Adam rose up the ranks in the kitchen and worked in the city’s best restaurants including Canoe, The Spoke Club, and Biffs Bistro. Adam was chosen among 10 other chefs to compete in a national cooking competition “San Pellegrino’s Young Chef”, was featured on a television program during a cooking segment & completed in a Blackbox cooking competition against 2 local celebrity chef’s & won.
Adam struggled with his romantic visions & the reality of the restaurant industry that he was living in. With a growing family Adam was torn between his growing responsibilities, and his dreams that he felt slowly fading away. Adam made the final decision to leave the industry but continued to cook & sell at home under an Instagram name “alder.market”. He continued this side hustle for two years before he eventually left it for new interests. Adam eventually returned to his original vice, the pencil and sketch pad. And now only after looking at his life up to this point, Adam realizes that there has always been a burning desire inside; Adam was drawn back into the need to create.
